Botox Injections

This procedure is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the UK and is increasingly in demand because of its effectiveness, convenience, tolerability and, perhaps most importantly, client satisfaction.

It has been available since 1987 and is used to treat lines on the forehead and also those around the eyes commonly known as crow’s feet. In 2006 it was licensed in the UK for improving the appearance of vertical frown lines between the eyes, also known as Glabellar lines.

Botox injections are quick and relatively painless and work by relaxing the facial muscles that produce frown and laughter lines. These lines will soften over a period of 10 days following the treatment and we therefore review all clients after 2 weeks to discuss the results and decide if top-up treatments are needed. There is no additional charge for the second appointment.Botox Wrinkle Injections

The effects of Botox last for about 3-4 months in the first year of treatment and thereafter for about 6 months, so to maintain the results we recommend 3 or 4 treatments in the first year and 2 or 3 treatments in subsequent years.

The use of Botox is very safe. There have been millions of treatments given worldwide and no serious adverse events have been recorded. Minor side effects may include some redness and swelling at the injection site, which usually lasts for less than an hour, and, less commonly, some bruising.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are used to fill out or plump up lines on the face such as those between the nose and the corner of the mouth.

The products used are clear gels containing a substance called Hyaluronic acid, which is normally present in the skin. It binds water molecules to itself thereby increasing it’s volume. As we age the amount of Hyaluronic acid in our skin diminishes which is one of the reasons that it loses it’s tone and elasticity. Thus a baby will have 30 times more Hyaluronic acid in it’s skin than a middle aged adult.Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are metabolised by the body so the effects are not permanent and whilst this means that repeat treatments are necessary to maintain the appearance, it does remove the risk of permanent unwanted effects such as the infamous “trout pout”, when used to give volume to the lips. Repeat treatments may be necessary every 6 – 9 months.

Commonly treated areas include lines around the lips, both above and below the mouth, lines between the nose and mouth and also frown and laughter lines that have not completely softened with Botox.

At Bath Facial Aesthetics we use dermal fillers from Restylane and Juvederm. Please check on the links to find out more about these safe and widely used products.

The cost of treatment depends on the amount and type of filler that needs to be used which, in turn, is dependent on the area treated and the depth of the lines. The price list is a useful guide, however Dr Hamling will advise you, during your initial consultation and prior to embarking on treatment, of the most appropriate treatment for you and the cost for this.

Skin Peels

This is a popular procedure that is used to treat a variety of skin conditions such as acne, age spots, photodamage, rough texture, fine lines & wrinkles.

There are two peels that we currently use at Bath Facial Aesthetics. They are both described as “light” or “superficial” peels which means that there is usually no actual reddening or peeling of the skin, however it does mean that you will require more treatments, usually a course of 4 – 6, to maximise the effects.

The first of our peels is a blend of Glycolic and Lactic acid which are alpha hydroxy acids derived from fruit acids. The solution is applied to the skin and after 3-5 minutes it is removed along with some of the uppermost cells from the epidermis. This process is extremely gentle. The purpose of this is to remove dull, dry and damaged skin and allow the younger, healthier skin to shine through. The skin will feel tighter & thicker, and should appear fuller and smoother with smaller pores and fewer fine lines and wrinkles. Basically your skin will appear rejuvenated following this peel.

Our second peel uses Salicylic acid, which is a beta hydoxy acid, combined with Mandelic acid. One important feature of Salicylic acid is that it is soluble in oil, which means that it is very effective in cleaning & removing bacteria, dead skin cells & sebum oil from deep inside the pores. It is ideally suited for use on oily irritated skin with pustules, blackheads & whiteheads.

Medical Microdermabrasion

A modern and safe alternative to chemical and laser peels with no recovery time.

Medical microdermabrasion originated in Italy in the 1990’s and has since been refined in the US. It is a safe non-surgical resurfacing procedure which is commomly used to treat

  • Acne Prone Skin
  • Blackheads & Whiteheads
  • Oily skin
  • Fine Lines & Wrinkles
  • Sun Damaged Skin
  • Dry or Patchy Skin

It is an ideal treatment for young and old, male and female and for all skin types. Although mainly used on the facial area it may also be performed on the chest, back, shoulders or other areas as required.

How it works
At Bath Facial Aesthetics we use a Medical Microdermabrasion system designed by Dermagenesis in the US. The system uses a highly controlled flow of fine, medical grade crystals to remove the dead, outermost layer of skin. This skin exfoliation process reveals the new, living skin cells that are soft, smooth and receptive to nutrients.

The procedure is performed by using a hand piece that is passed over the skin. This evenly removed the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of skin, while at the same time the underlying epidermis is also stimulated by the abrasion and the vacuum. This promotes new collagen which thickens the dermis and improves resistance to the effects of aging.

Before and after
The microdermabrasion procedure takes approximately thirty minutes, depending on the skin condition and the area to be treated. Many will notice improvements in the texture and appearance of their skin immediately after the first treatment. The long-term benefits of multiple procedures can be remarkable.
