Skin Peels
This is a popular procedure that is used to treat a variety of skin conditions such as acne, age spots, photodamage, rough texture, fine lines & wrinkles.
There are two peels that we currently use at Bath Facial Aesthetics. They are both described as “light” or “superficial” peels which means that there is usually no actual reddening or peeling of the skin, however it does mean that you will require more treatments, usually a course of 4 – 6, to maximise the effects.
The first of our peels is a blend of Glycolic and Lactic acid which are alpha hydroxy acids derived from fruit acids. The solution is applied to the skin and after 3-5 minutes it is removed along with some of the uppermost cells from the epidermis. This process is extremely gentle. The purpose of this is to remove dull, dry and damaged skin and allow the younger, healthier skin to shine through. The skin will feel tighter & thicker, and should appear fuller and smoother with smaller pores and fewer fine lines and wrinkles. Basically your skin will appear rejuvenated following this peel.
Our second peel uses Salicylic acid, which is a beta hydoxy acid, combined with Mandelic acid. One important feature of Salicylic acid is that it is soluble in oil, which means that it is very effective in cleaning & removing bacteria, dead skin cells & sebum oil from deep inside the pores. It is ideally suited for use on oily irritated skin with pustules, blackheads & whiteheads.
